Japanese scientist Susumu Kitagawa, Australian Richard Robson and American Omar M. Yaghi have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry on Wednesday for growing a brand new type of molecular structure.
“By the event of metal-organic frameworks, the laureates have offered chemists with new alternatives for fixing a few of the challenges we face,” the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences mentioned.
The trio created molecular constructions that can be utilized to reap water from desert air and seize carbon dioxide, the academy mentioned.
“Steel-organic frameworks have huge potential, bringing beforehand unexpected alternatives for custom-made supplies with new features,” mentioned Heiner Linke, Chair of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry.
